Surfing: Moore (USA) moves on

Riding a board with the stars and stripes airbrushed on the deck, Team USA’s Carissa Moore, the defending Olympic champion and 5x World Champion, advanced to the quarter finals from her Round 3 heat.

Moore (USA) was in complete control against South Africa’s Sara Baum. She surfed with distinct poise, using a balanced backhand attack of quick tubes and snaps in the pocket to finish with a total heat score of 8.16. Though techincally in it until the final horn, Baum (RSA) never seemed to sync up with the shifty waves and couldn’t put together a strong enough sequence of moves to beat one of the winningest surfers of all time. She finished with a score of 3.87.
