Track cycling: Australia dethrone team pursuit reigning champions Italy, taking their world record

Wow, I think we can consider this a big surprise in the men’s team pursuit.

Reigning Olympic champions and world record holders Italy, whose world record had stood since their race to gold three years ago in Tokyo, have been dethroned by Australia – who’ve only gone and taken the world record too!

Oliver Bleddyn, Sam Welsford, Conor Leahy, and Kelland O’Brien come home in 3:40.730 – more than 1.3 seconds faster than that previous world record!

Australia will race Great Britain for gold while Italy take on Denmark for bronze.
