Athletics: Gabby Thomas crowned women’s 200m champion

It’s time for the women’s 200m final.

There are three U.S. runners in this race, including hot favourite and Tokyo bronze medallist Gabby Thomas; two Britons, including 2019 world champion Dina Asher-Smith; the Olympic 100m champion, Julien Alfred of Saint Lucia; and Nigeria’s Favour Ofili among others.

But there are no Jamaicans after Shericka Jackson withdrew ahead of the heats.

On your marks. Set. They’re off.

It’s a fast start from Asher-Smith. But Thomas hits the front as they come onto the straight and the U.S. sprinter and hot favourite will run through for gold!

Gabby Thomas wins gold in 21.83.

Alfred takes silver in 22.08 and USA’s Brittany Brown takes a four-way photo-finish for bronze in 22.20!

Thomas cannot believe it and is almost in tears, before she finally goes to grab a U.S. flag.

Just 0.04 seconds separated third from sixth!

Thomas goes over to give the champions’ bell three rings and she does a little jig after doing so.
