Athletics: Beatrice Chebet completes women’s distance double with 10,000m win
We’re into the closing stages of the women’s 10,000m final now.
There is a lead group of about 13 runners with three laps to go. And that lead group has lost one woman as they come for two to go.
Netherlands’ Sifan Hassan is at the front of that lead pack. The pace is still consistent but it will start to kick up now as they come to take the bell for the last lap.
Hassan is hanging on to the back of the lead group which is down to seven athletes as they take the bend on the back straight. Two Kenyans at the front!
Down the straight they come for the finish! Gold for Beatrice Chebet in 30:43.25! It’s the distance double for Chebet, adding to her 5000m win!
Italy’s Nadia Battocletti runs a national record 30:43.35 for silver, and Hassan comes through for bronze in 30:44.12.
