Athletics: Chebet takes gold in women’s 5000m final
This women’s 5000m final includes many of the world’s top distance runners.
After 3000m, it’s Ejgayehu Taye and Gudaf Tsegay in an Ethiopian one-two, with the Kenyan trio of Beatrice Chebet, Faith Kipyegon, and Margaret Kipkemboi marking them.
The pace slowly but surely picks up as we enter the final two and a half laps. The lead group is down to eight women, with Sifan Hassan of Netherlands involved.
It’s now the Kenyans in the lead in a one-two-three as they take the bell for the final lap! Time to kick…

Chebet is going to take Kipyegon! She passes her with about 40m to go and Beatrice Chebet wins gold and finishes ahead of Faith Kipyegon in a Kenyan one-two!
Sifan Hassan takes bronze for Netherlands.
The winning time 14:28.56. Kipyegon in 14:29.60, Hassan 14:30.61.
Fourth place went to Italy’s Nadia Battocletti in a new national record 14:31.64.
