Athletics: Kitaguchi Haruka wins women’s javelin throw gold

We’re into the final throws in the women’s javelin throw final now.

World champion Kitaguchi Haruka of Japan leads on 65.80m from her first throw right now.

Kitaguchi, Jo-Ane van Dyk (RSA)Nikola Ogrodnikova (CZE), and Sara Kolak (CRO) are the only athletes left to throw.

But 2016 Olympic champ Kolak does not improve on her 63.40 and stays fourth. So the medallists are now confirmed.

Likewise no improvement for the Czech athlete, who wins bronze on 63.68m.

Van Dyk, too, cannot go further than her 63.93m best, so the South African takes silver.

World champ Kitaguchi is the Olympic champion. Can she go out with a big final throw? No. But she is the winner with 65.80m.
