Athletics: Spain win marathon mixed relay race walk gold!
Martina Perez crosses the finish line with a triumphant roar – she and her teammate Alvaro Martin are the first ever Olympic champions in the marathon mixed relay race walk!
A sublime push from Perez in the anchor leg of the race allowed her to pull away from Glenda Morejon (ECU), eventually winning gold by 51 seconds.
Brian Pintado, Morejon’s teammate, becomes the first Ecuadorian ever to win two medals at the same Olympics after his gold in the men’s 20km race walk.
Bronze goes to the Australian pair of Rhydian Cowley/Jemima Montag. It’s a second bronze for Montag after she finished third in the women’s 20km race walk last week.
