Athletics wrap-up from morning session

The morning session of the athletics at the Stade de France has just finished, and here are the key highlights from the action.

Men’s Decathlon
Leo Neugebauer (GER) leads the men’s decathlon after three events, with two 2nd-place finishes in the long jump and shot put carrying him into first with 2876 points after placing 13th in the 100m. Defending Olympic champion Damian Warner (CAN) is second with 2798 points.

Women’s High Jump
13 athletes have advanced to the final of the women’s high jump competition, with Tokyo 2020 silver and bronze medallists Nicola Olyslagers (AUS) and Yaroslava Mahuchikh (UKR) among them.

Women’s 100m
2023 world champion Sha’Carri Richardson (USA) and two-time 100m Olympic gold medallist Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce (JAM) are safely through to the semi-final after finishing 1st and 2nd in their heats, respectively. Marie-JosĂ©e Ta Lou (CIV) had the top time of the heats with 10.87.

Men’s 1500m
2023 world champion and Tokyo 2020 bronze medallist Josh Kerr (GBR) qualified for the semi-finals with a season-best time of 3:35.83. Tokyo 2020 champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen (NOR) is also through. Ermias Girma (ETH) had the top qualifying time of 3:35.21.

Men’s Hammer Throw
2023 world champion Ethan Katzberg (CAN) has laid down the marker with a top qualifying score of 79.93, well ahead of compatriot Rowan Hamilton in second (77.78).
