Badminton: An Seyoung wins women’s singles title

An Seyoung has won her first Olympic medal… and it’s gold! She sealed the the women’s singles title with a 21-13, 21-16 win over He Bingjiao.

An’s gold is the first medal of any colour in this event since 1996 for the Republic of Korea. 

People’s Republic of China shuttler He’s silver is her first Olympic medal, too.

Bronze went to Indonesia’s Gregoria Mariska Tunjung, who won it by default after her opponent Carolina Marín of Spain was unable to take to court following her injury in the semi-final.
