BMX Racing: Daudet leads French podium sweep
Such is the format of the BMX Racing competition, that after two rounds of three races each with a low-point system, the medals will be decided in a single one-off final.
There are, believe it or not, three French riders in the men’s final after Joris Daudet, Sylvain André, and Romain Mahieu all qualified from the semi-finals.
They’re joined by Cam Wood of USA, Cedric Butti and Simon Marquart of Switzerland, Mateo Carmona of Colombia, and Izaac Kennedy of Australia.
Can the French seal a podium sweep? André, notably, finished fourth in Tokyo, agonisingly short of the podium.
Daudet has the inside gate number one with a right turn first up. It’s a fast start for both him and André!
Kennedy tries to take Mahieu but he crashes! The French are still going at the front! And they’re heading for a 1-2-3!
Joris Daudet wins gold! Sylvain André wins silver! And Romain Mahieu wins bronze!
Helmets have gone flying in celebration. Over at La Défense, the swimming arena breaks out into celebration as the news filters through.
