Despite an aggressive start from Jamaican Andrenette Knight, Bol remained composed, gradually taking the lead in the final stretch. The reigning world champion Bol crossed the finish line with an impressive time of 53.07 seconds. Following behind was the Jamaican trio of Rushell Clayton, Knight, and Janieve Russell.
Shericka Jackson Triumphs
Jamaica’s Shericka Jackson overcame a strong headwind to claim victory in the 200 meters event with a season-best time of 22.69 seconds. Jackson’s commanding win provided a confidence boost, particularly after her recent loss in Oslo. Sweden’s Julia Henriksson secured second place with a personal best of 22.89 seconds, while Britain’s Amy Hunt finished third with a time of 22.92 seconds.
Yaroslava Mahuchikh Dominates in Outdoor Debut
World champion Yaroslava Mahuchikh of Ukraine made her outdoor season debut with a remarkable performance, clearing 2.00 meters on her second attempt. Germany’s Imke Onnen finished second with a jump of 1.94 meters, equaling her season’s best. The third place was taken by another Ukrainian, Iryna Gerashchenko, also clearing 1.94 meters.
Leyanis Perez-Hernandez Maintains Winning Streak
Leyanis Perez-Hernandez, the World Indoor Silver Medalist, maintained her undefeated outdoor season streak with a season’s best jump of 14.67 meters. Jamaica’s Shaneeka Ricketts finished second with a jump of 14.40 meters, and Thea Lafond, the World Indoor Champion, recorded 14.26 meters to finish third.
Mondo Duplantis Nears World Record
Mondo Duplantis dominated the men’s pole vault with first-time clearances at 5.60 meters, 5.80 meters, and 5.90 meters. He then cleared 6 meters on his first try and set the bar at a world record height of 6.25 meters. Although he narrowly missed the record, his progressively stronger attempts fueled his motivation for upcoming competitions.
Lamecha Girma’s Dominance in Steeplechase
Lamecha Girma, already showcasing impressive form this season, aimed to make a statement in his first steeplechase race of 2024. Although starting off aggressively, he maintained a strong pace, leading comfortably throughout the race. Girma’s commanding performance culminated in a world-leading time of 8:01.63, significantly faster than the previous winning mark set by Soufiane El Bakkali.
Djamel Sedjati Triumphs in Men’s 800m
Algeria’s Djamel Sedjati displayed a masterful performance in the men’s 800 meters, positioning himself strategically throughout the race. With a strong final kick, Sedjati surged ahead in the last stretch, securing victory with a world-leading time of 1:43.23. Bryce Hoppel and Tshepiso Masalela followed closely, finishing in second and third place respectively.
