Canoe slalom: Noémie Fox (AUS) wins first ever kayak cross gold medal

The women’s kayak cross final is up – someone is about to make history as the first champion in this event.

Noémie Fox (AUS) is the top qualifier and gets a decent cheer from the crowd as she’s half-French. Kimberley Woods (GBR), Angèle Hug (FRA) – who gets the loudest cheers –, and Elena Lilik (GER) are in this final.

There are eight gates. The barrel roll comes after gate 1; the upstream gates are 2 and 8.

First three across the line cleanly earn medals.

It’s a clean start! Woods hits the front and she’s opening up a gap! All through the barrel roll fine.

Woods’ lead is gone at the first upstream gate and Fox leads. Woods is right behind her. They have clear air behind them.

Lilik and Hug are neck-and-neck for bronze.

Fox clears the second upstream gate and Woods is stuck!

Noémie Fox wins gold for Australia! Hug earns silver! But despite being caught in the last gate, Woods wins bronze as Lilik picks up a fault on the first upstream at gate 2!

The entire Fox family have jumped in to celebrate with Noémie.
