Gold Medals Pour For Italy at Roma 2024

Italy secured three gold medals at the Roma 2024 European Athletics Championships on Saturday, thanks to Leonardo Fabbri in the men’s shot put, Lorenzo Simonelli in the 110m hurdles, and Marcell Jacobs in the men’s 100m. This success boosted Italy’s medal tally to five golds, four silvers, and a bronze, matching their best-ever European Championships haul from 1990.

Jacobs Shines in 100m

Marcell Jacobs won the 100m in a season’s best of 10.02. Italy’s Chituru Ali took silver with a personal best of 10.05, while Britain’s Romell Glave earned bronze in 10.06. The crowd celebrated with the White Stripes’ “Seven Nation Army.”

Fabbri Sets Championship Record

Leonardo Fabbri won gold in the shot put with a championship record of 22.45m. Croatia’s Filip Mihaljevic took silver, and Poland’s Michal Haratyk won bronze.

Simonelli’s Record-Breaking Hurdles

Lorenzo Simonelli claimed gold in the 110m hurdles with a European season-best of 13.05, breaking his own Italian record. Spain’s Enrique Llopis and Switzerland’s Jason Joseph took silver and bronze, respectively.
