Weightlifting: Hou Zhihui wins women’s 49kg gold with clean and jerk Olympic record

It’s been a great day so far today for defending champions, and we have another repeat winner!

Hou Zhihui of People’s Republic of China has taken gold in the women’s 49kg weightlifting event, breaking the clean and jerk Olympic record along the way.

Hou lifted 89kg in the snatch and 117kg in the clean and jerk for a total of 206kg, just 1kg ahead of silver medallist Mihaela Cambei of Romania.

Bronze went to Thailand’s Surodchana Khambao.
