Swimming: Michael Phelps heaps praise on Léon Marchand

High praise for French swimming’s golden boy, Léon Marchand, has come from the sport’s GOAT, Michael Phelps.

The two have a link: Phelps’s old coach, Bob Bowman, is Marchand’s current coach.

"That’s probably the greatest double I’ve ever seen in the history of the sport," Phelps said on U.S. broadcaster NBC.

"To be able to go 1:52 and 2:05, the kid can obviously swim, we know that, and if we didn’t know it before, he’s gonna be here for a long time. He’s gonna make a lot of noise."

It was pretty remarkable: Marchand came into tonight, an individual medley swimmer, and took down two specialists – Kristóf Milák in the 200 fly and Zac Stubblety-Cook in the 200 breaststroke.
