Marathon swimming: Sharon van Rouwendaal (NED) wins women’s gold!

After a monumental two hour swim in the River Seine, Van Rouwendaal breaks away from Johnson and Taddeucci in the final straight to come home and smack the time board with vigour – she is an Olympic champion for a second time!

After winning gold in this event at Rio 2016, she is now the first athlete ever  to win two Olympic gold medals in marathon swimming and three medals total in that discipline of aquatics (gold in 2016, silver in Tokyo 2020, gold in Paris 2024).

Johnson’s silver is the best result for an Australian athlete in marathon swimming, while Taddeucci earns a well-deserved bronze.

🥈Moesha Johnson (AUS): 2:03:39.7
