Modern pentathlon: Olympic records set in men’s semi-finals

For the first time at an Olympic Games, we have semi-finals in modern pentathlon to determine our finalists.

Another change is a shorter Laser Run segment, down to 3km from 3.2km.

It means we’ve seen both the Olympic record for the Laser Run and for Overall Points re-written today.

Czechia’s Martin Vlach scored 713 points in the Laser Run with a time of 9:47.46, compared to his Tokyo 2020 Olympic record of 670 points for the longer distance.

And Egypt’s Ahmed Elgendy, who won semi-final A, scored 1516 points to break Joe Choong’s Olympic record of 1482 – although defending champion Choong will compete in semi-final B this evening.
