Mondo Duplantis Shines with Third Consecutive Gold at Roma 2024 European Athletics Championships

Mondo Duplantis delivered a stellar performance, winning his third successive gold medal in the final event of the Roma 2024 European Athletics Championships, narrowly missing a new world record. The Stadio Olimpico crowd cheered him on, serenading him with “Volare” as he aimed for new heights.

Duplantis easily cleared 5.65m, 5.82m, 5.92m, and 5.97m. After securing gold, he achieved a new championship record by clearing 6.10m on his first attempt. He then attempted a world record height of 6.25m, coming closest on his first attempt. This event marked the 60th competition where Duplantis has cleared six meters and the 82nd time in his career.

Reflecting on his performance, Duplantis said, “The main goal was to win my third gold. After clearing 6.10m, there was so much energy that attempting the world record felt like fun. I can’t complain; I have a great team and the best support from my parents.”

Emmanouil Karalis of Greece won silver with a personal best of 5.87m, while Turkey’s Ersu Şaşma and Germany’s Oleg Zernikel shared bronze, both clearing 5.82m.
