Rowing: Great Britain stage late surge to win women’s quad sculls gold
Wow! Where has this come from? With just 250m left of the 2000m course, it looks for all the world like Netherlands have gold sewn up, as Great Britain and Ukraine lag behind.
But the British quartet put their all into the finishing stretch and somehow, some way, find enough in them to beat them at the line.It was way too close – just 0.15 seconds separated the teams!
Lauren Henry, Hannah Scott, Lola Anderson, and Georgina Brayshaw cross the line first in 6:16.31, with the Dutch boat coming home in 6:16.46. Germany also staged a late push to win bronze in 6:20.12, as both they and Switzerland overtook Ukraine in the final quarter of the race.
