Swimming: Hubert Kos wins men’s 200m backstroke in final metres

The second final of the night at the Paris La Défense Arena is the men’s 200m backstroke.

None of the Tokyo 2020 medallists are in this final. The fastest qualifier is Hungary’s Hubert Kos.

Off they go from their starting positions in the pool. It’s worth mentioning there is a French athlete in this final, Mewen Tomac in lane one.

Greece’s Apostolos Christou is leading through 100 in lane two, with a body length’s lead!

The rest of this field has to react. Here comes Kos, slightly, but Christou is still ahead at 150.

Does Kos know he’s not in the lead in the middle lane? Here he comes with a late push! And in the last 15m he takes the lead!

Hubert Kos wins gold for Hungary in 1:54.26! "Let’s go!" he yells from the pool.

Christou takes silver for Greece in 1:54.82, and Roman Mityukov of Switzerland takes bronze in 1:54.85.
