Taekwondo: Panipak Wongpattanakit successfully retains women’s 49kg title
The first taekwondo gold medal of these Olympic Games has been awarded at the Grand Palais, and it’s gone to Thailand’s Panipak Wongpattanakit!
Panipak, the defending champion in the women’s 49kg category, wins two of the three rounds against People’s Republic of China’s Guo Qing in the final for a 2-1 win.
She’s become the first Thai athlete in any sport to become a two-time Olympic champion.
Bronzes went to Mobina Nematzadeh of Islamic Republic of Iran and Lena Stojkovic of Croatia.
