Tennis: Siniakova/Machac win mixed doubles gold in match tiebreak
Would you believe it, the mixed doubles gold medal final has gone to a match tiebreak.
Katerina Siniakova and Tomas Machac of Czechia find themselves 0-3 down in this tie-break, but keep their nerve to come back against Wang Xinyu and Zhang Zhizhen of People’s Republic of China.
This is going all the way and at [8]-[8] in the tiebreak, Wang and Zhang double-fault to give Siniakova and Machac match point.
They convert on the first opportunity on an unforced error.
Siniakova has another gold after her women’s doubles title in Tokyo 2020.
And Wang and Zhang, who came into this tournament as alternates, are all smiles – it’s been an incredible run for them.
