Hagos Gebrhiwet delivered a stunning performance in the men’s 5000m at the Bislett Games in Oslo, clocking 12:36.73. This victory marked one of three meeting records and five world-leading times set during the Wanda Diamond League event, just two months before the Paris Olympic Games.

Gebrhiwet’s triumph was unexpected, overshadowing world record-holder Joshua Cheptegei, two-time world cross-country champion Jacob Kiplimo, and last year’s winner Yomif Kejelcha. The race began with a steady pace, with the leading pack reaching 4000m in 10:11.86. Gebrhiwet made his decisive move on the final lap, finishing with a 54.99-second lap to secure his win.

His time was just 1.37 seconds shy of the world record, moving him to second on the world all-time list. Kejelcha finished second in 12:38.95, and Kiplimo secured third with a personal best of 12:40.96. The race saw a historic achievement, with 13 men breaking the 13-minute barrier. National records were set by athletes from Guatemala, Switzerland, Sweden, France, and South Africa.

The race marked the end of Shericka Jackson’s dominant streak in the event, as the two-time world champion finished fifth, clocking 22.97 seconds. Daryll Neeta secured third place with a season-best 22.50 seconds.

Marileidy Paulino Dominates 400 Meters with World-Leading Time

Marileidy Paulino once again asserted her dominance in the women’s 400 meters. World silver medallist Natalia Kaczmarek initially led the race, but Paulino surged ahead on the final bend and entered the home straight with a slight advantage. She crossed the finish line in a world-leading time of 49.30 seconds, just 0.07 seconds short of the meeting record. Kaczmarek, fresh from her win in Ostrava, achieved a season-best of 49.80 seconds to secure second place. America’s Alexis Holmes finished third with 50.40 seconds, ahead of Dutch star and world indoor silver medalist Lieke Klaver, who finished fourth with 50.62 seconds.
