Track cycling: Great Britain win women’s team sprint gold in world record time

Okay, here we go. New Zealand against Great Britain for women’s team sprint gold, the first to be awarded at the Olympic Games to teams of three sprinters over three laps.

The world record has already gone down four times today, including once to the Kiwis and twice to the Brits. Bronze medallists Germany, who beat Netherlands in the third-place final, also briefly held the record.

45.338 seconds is the time to watch.

Off they go, and the lead riders quickly peel ahead of their teammates as they take a hard turn at the front.

Great Britain and New Zealand are pushing hard after the first lap, and it’s more of the same through the second as the Britons pull ahead.

They’re heading for gold! What’s the time?

45.186 seconds! For the third time today for the Brits, a new world record!

New Zealand take silver.
