Triathlon: Cassandre Beaugrand (FRA) wins gold!
The crowd roars Beaugrand (FRA) home to gold!
Beautiful tactial racing from the world’s No.1 triathlete, who made her move with about 1500m to go, pulling away from Derron (SUI), Potter (GBR) and Lombardi (FRA) in a burst of power.
With her home crowd roaring her on, the Tokyo 2020 mixed relay bronze medallist sailed through the finish line and immediately collapses in exhaustion, as does Derron in second and Potter in third.
Beaugrand’s gold is the first for France in Olympic triathlon. Potter, who competed in the 10,000m at Rio 2016, also becomes the first athlete to compete in both sports in Olympic history.
